a.
To study and understand the
strategic environment of West Africa, Africa and the World.
b.
To study the strategic and
operational implications of peacekeeping operations in the West
African sub-region;
c.
To harmonize the objectives
and doctrines of West African militaries with regard to
peacekeeping operations within the context of both ECOWAS
Mechanism for Conflict Prevention, Management, Resolution,
Peacekeeping and Security, and the policy framework for the
establishment of African Standby Force;
d.
To harmonize the
understanding of actors brought together for the peacekeeping
training missions in the West African sub-region such as civil
police, humanitarian organizations, the mass media, electoral
observers and so on;
e.
To provide actors with the
capacity for negotiation and mediation in crisis environments;
f.
To equip participants with
the tools required for post conflict peace building; and
g.
To contribute, through
research and studies, towards evolving peacekeeping doctrines
and concepts for peacekeeping operations as well as best
practices in the conduct of such operations within the West
African sub region.
